From the grave stone of DR John Hull
To induce DR Hull to come to Wallingford the inhabitants at a town meeting voted him a tract of land over one mile square.

Dr John Hull moved to Strafford CT and in 1668 he went to Pawgassett (now Derby CT) and it is supposed that he was one of the first settlers of that town which he named Derby for his father's old home in England. He moved to Wallingford in 1687. He built the first corn-flour mill in Wallingford.

    History of Wallingford, CT
Dr. John Hulls, as he wrote his name, was at Stratford in 1661, when he was admitted a planter. It is not quite certain whether he came from England, or was a son of Richard Hull of New Haven. Dr. John was at Derby, CT in 1668, and at Wallingford in 1687. He died Dec. 6, 1711, at the latter place. He was probably somewhat advanced in life when he came to Wallingford. He married Mary Jones October 19, 1672, probably his second wife, she dying he married Rebecca Turner.

About 1637 he removed to New Haven, and took the oath of fidelity. He was one of the founders of the New Haven Colony and lived in this county on what is now called Chapel Street.
